This weekend the 48th Annual Literacy Association of Ireland Conference takes place in Marino Institute of Education. Each year, the annual conference is a significant highlight of the association's year as it celebrates a wealth of pertinent literacy research from home and afar.
I've been the president of LAI for 2024, a wonderful opportunity which I have thoroughly enjoyed.
There can often be a misunderstanding about who these types of conferences are for. Many teachers have reached out asking if teachers can attend! Short answer? ABSOLUTELY!
The Literacy Association of Ireland has members spanning all educational sectors. Each year our conference attracts a diverse audience...and usually the bulk of attendees are teachers! So, yes, this is very much a conference for teachers.
This year we have a really exciting line up across Friday evening and Saturday.
Friday begins with a Literacy Meet, our biennial Dissertation Awards and a fireside chat with a wonderful panel who will discuss the role of reading for pleasure in childhood and beyond.
On Saturday, I am absolutely thrilled that we will welcome Dr Sonia Cabell as our keynote speaker to share a presentation on content-rich literacy instruction. Sonia is professor in Reading Instruction at Florida State University and is well known for her pertinent research on the prevention of reading difficulties in at-risk readers. Full details here.
This year we have some new conference and membership combination offers. We also have special rates for NQTs and Students (this is open to ALL students undergrad, post-grad etc.). You can explore the ticket options here.
Looking forward to seeing some of you there - be sure to say hello!
